Viking Connections: Suzie Geisler
Suzie Geisler is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and national certified counselor (NCC). Geisler works at Hope Haven of DeKalb County, Inc, DeKalb County, Illinois' only homeless shelter, and is the clinical therapist, providing mental health counseling to shelter and permanent housing clients. Geisler oversees clinical services, including assisting clients with paying for medications and scheduling on-site psychiatry appointments. Geisler partners with colleagues to host community-building activities for clients of all ages, and assists with writing grants to obtain clinical service funding. Geisler is Hope Haven's only bilingual employee (English/Spanish).
Geisler represents Hope Haven on the DeKalb County Collaborative for Young Children (DCCYC). This impact group works to build communities that support the development, school readiness, and future success of young children. Geisler serves on the Collaborative's Birth-to-Eight Mental Health Coalition (B8MHC), which works to build the capacity of the county's mental health services/resources for young children and their families. Geisler is also a member of the Illinois Counseling Association, the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council.
"I wish this existed when I graduated - I want to help now as an alum. There are many educational, licensure and workplace options in the mental health field. I hope to help fellow Vikings interested in mental health, social services, and/or non-profit work gain knowledge so they can explore and identify interests for their future.
